Classification by material and function: Soft shell - Water-repellent, windproof, and stretchy, a staple for mountaineering; Hard shell - Waterproof and breathable rain pants for bad weather; Insulation - Padded, warm pants for winter; Quick-drying type - Lightweight and breathable, suitable for summer mountain climbing and trail running.

Layering bottoms also generally have a three-layer structure, with the combination of inner tights (base), trekking pants (mid), and rain pants (outer) regulating body temperature.
