The mesh is 18 inches wide, allowing you to adjust the height when setting up the shelter. The bottom edge is tucked inside the canopy, minimizing rain absorption. For setup, you will need one hiking pole or a carbon fiber pole (optional). If you want to remove the poles inside the shelter, you can hang the shelter from a tree branch instead.
