YAMAP and BMZ have developed mountaineering insoles for people who want to improve their mountaineering performance, walk more comfortably, or who experience discomfort in their feet while hiking, or who easily get tired while walking. The "Mountain Walking Insoles / Carbon" is a high-performance model at the top of their lineup. The "Mountain Walking Insole / Carbon" was developed with situations in mind where a lot of stress is placed on the feet, such as long mountain hikes, long-term traverses, and mountain climbing while carrying heavy loads, and as the name suggests, it is made with carbon. By incorporating carbon into the center of the insole, the appropriate amount of rebound force reduces the strain on the feet. The function of the foot is to maintain balance, absorb shock, and push off to walk, all three of these functions performed simultaneously. When climbing mountains in particular, the soles of the feet are subjected to a huge force, sometimes two or three times the body weight, when walking. A sturdy material is needed to support that load. Of the various materials available, carbon was the only material that could perform the same three functions as the feet, and was therefore adopted. Incidentally, at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, four of the eight medals won by Japanese athletes were made using BMZ carbon-embedded insoles, a material that is also recognized by top-level athletes. The carbon fiber manufacturing method used by BMZ is very special. The carbon fiber is produced in Japan, the resin impregnation for shaping is done in Germany, and the material is then sent back to Japan for commercialization. Of course, it is possible to produce everything domestically, but it seems that the performance cannot match that of the German product. Because it is carbon fiber that is made with a lot of time, effort, and cost, it is only used in flagship models.
