The Alpha IS Jacket is a rugged climbing hardshell and an ultra-warm insulated jacket in one. The combination of these two layers is 18% lighter than either of these layers separately, making it ideal for harsh, unforgiving environments. The Alpha IS is fitted with the company's proprietary ThermaTek synthetic insulation throughout. ThermaTek is a fully synthetic insulation designed to provide warmth in all conditions, even when soaking wet. The insulation itself has a durable water-repellent coating that makes it even more hydrophobic, making it the quickest drying of any Arc'teryx product. Additionally, the insulation is lined and laminated to spread evenly throughout the jacket, minimizing the risk of cold spots. An additional layer of Coreloft Continuous 65 insulation is added in the shoulders for extra warmth. Surrounding this versatile insulation is 40D nylon combined with a two-layer Gore-Tex membrane. The tough 40D nylon acts like armour, protecting you from abrasions, while the Gore-Tex provides complete waterproof and windproofing. As with the insulation, the outer fabric also has a durable water-repellent coating as another layer of defence. The Alpha IS features Arc'teryx's StormHood, which allows you to comfortably wear a climbing helmet underneath and adds valuable warmth when stationary. The hood adjustment has a Coheasive adjuster built into the fabric itself. It's like a button underneath the fabric, which makes it very easy to use when wearing bulky gloves or mittens and eliminates the risk of long elastics hitting your face. When the hood is not in use, there's a high collar with a soft lining for excellent protection. Moving downwards, the main zipper is fitted with a brake bump to prevent it from coming loose during use. Cleverly, there's also a Coheasive adjuster at the hem, which serves two purposes: first to lock in warmth and secondly to secure it under a climbing harness to prevent the jacket from riding up during use.
