Because it's used in our Alpine and Lightweight Trekking series, the demands on this fabric are high. To meet these demands, we applied a Skyr coating (surface coating) to the front of the fabric, creating a water-repellent surface. This coating ensures that the water-repellent properties remain for a long time. Additionally, to increase abrasion resistance while reducing weight, we applied a TPU coating to the back. This ensures a waterproof rating of 10,000mm, making it ideal for waterproof packs. The fabric is made from 210 denier Econyl fabric, a recycled yarn made from 50% post-consumer recycled and 50% pre-consumer recycled polyamide. Polyamide (nylon) is a synthetic fiber derived from petroleum, creating extremely strong and versatile fabrics. At Klättermusen, we use recycled polyamide from post-industrial and post-consumer sources. Post-consumer waste is our first choice, as we encourage recycling of used products. Examples of post-consumer waste used in recycled polyamide include discarded industrial fishing nets, old carpets, and stiff fibers. While recycling polyamide adds complexity to the production process, the result is a reliable, long-lasting material that is lightweight, quick-drying, and wind-resistant, saving energy and resources while utilizing what would otherwise be waste.
