The development theme for the RUSH series was "How can we reduce stress for runners?" My approach is to improve fit, stability, and usability mainly by optimizing the weight balance and pocket layout, and I used the exact same method to design the RUSH-HIP. We start by considering where on the body we should store what, and then consider the layout based on the shape and characteristics of the tools, how often they are used, etc. We then create and test several prototypes while considering the weight balance of each item. It's like asking "Where should we place the person, the luggage, and the engine?" in terms of car development. Luckily, HIP is a very small product, so I was able to make a prototype in the morning, test it during my lunch break, and then improve it in the afternoon... I had fun repeating this process. At first, the pockets were zippered, but through repeated testing, we realized that zippers weren't even necessary, and the waist belt, which was fastened with Velcro, also became unnecessary, and things became simpler in an interesting way. These moments of "brushing up functionality" are the most enjoyable for a designer. I would be very happy if you could try using HIP and experience this fun development experience. Use it in your neighborhood for now, but in the future, use it far away!
